Project Summary
WE’s Simpson Street Project was situated in the ever-growing street of Battersea. This projected embarked on a journey of renewal and reinvention. It all began with the bold decision to demolish a one and a half century terrace house and rebuild a compelling structure with its Victorian era experience to it.
The demolition was an integrate phase of the project as we had to consider demolishing the correct structure at the right time, temporally supporting working structure and ensuring the neighbouring properties and tenants remained safe, it was a delicate dance of preservation and progress.
The real challenge came with the two-story backyard extension. We had to work with limited space, juggling steel beams, concrete footings and digging under pins to create something both sturdy and beautiful. The foundation of the extension were meticulous with the integration of underground steel beams and services but at the same time ensuring progress was made on the complex steel work structural on the floors above.
But it wasn’t just about brick, timber, concrete and steel; it was about the little details that made this project special. We raised and rebuilt the roof so a fully functional bedroom with and ensuite could be built with a view overlooking the back garden. We demolished, moved, rebuilt a beautiful staircase and crowned it with a glass atrium at the top. It took some convincing with the planning authorities, but in the end, it was worth it. Now, light floods in, illuminating every oak step with the open risers.
Through it all, WE led the charge with skill and determination. In less than 40 weeks the house was demolished and a happy client had moved back in. This is testament to what WE can do with a special client.
